Intro
2018 was a stressful year! From the politics, to celebrities, but most of all; school. School has always been extremely stressful but there have always been ways to avoid it. But now, grades are effecting peoples lives more than ever. Over 73 of students even report either their friends or their own grades to have been slipping at one point this year. Slipping grades are extremely painful for a students g.p.a, and vaping is certainlly driving these slipping grades. Here at BOX, we think we understand why.
Vaping
The vaping epidemic is sweeping schools around the nation and these vaporizers are hindering the potential of many students with previously above average grades. The utilization of vaporizing devices has increased by 700 over the past 3 years. Professor Mrs. Khalifa of the University of Chicago says ¨These vaporizing are causing well behaved kids across the nation to focus less, causing there grades to slip.¨ This is extremely worrying, since a February study shows 42 of all high school students in Maryland vape or have vaped.
Cutting Class
Cutting class is a key factor in the slipping of grades. Many kids who want to utilize vaporizing devices in between classes often get caught in the bathroom, so they cut class! Many of these kids are former well behaved, obedient children, who have been caught in the nicotine addiction of vaping. A New Jersey study shows 42 of students who utilize these devices cut class at least twice a week to vape. This is honestly extremely concerning seeing the health concerns vaping poses.
Personal Experience
Vaping is a horrible habit and nobody should do it. Unfortunately, in high schools around the nation, it is causing many good kids grades to slip. Many students are cutting class just to utilize their vaporizing devices, and the repercussions are the slipping grades. Alex Argyros knows all of this first hand. His good friend and shadow Jack Racette gave us some info on what one of these kids lives are like. Jack says ¨It is honestly quite seeing Alex, once an astonishing student, struggling so much. It kills me to see him cutting class and have slipping grades because of these vape. I told the school and they hired me as his shadow. Every day I have to watch him and if Alex uses any sort of vapes, or cuts class, I can write him up.¨
Conclusion
Vaping is a key issue in modern society and restrictions look extremely far away. Teachers and parents alike must recognize that both vaping and skipping class are directly related to the slipping grades of many students. Parents should learn the signs and effects of vaping, to not only find out if their kids are doing it, but to also prevent it. The utilization of vaporizing devices has been killing college chances for many students, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. To fix this issue, we must push vaping restrictions, but until then, I am Tyler Blevins of BOX, goodbye!
