SUNDAY - Millions of children and teens are upset after Jeff Nguyen, CEO of popular social media app “TikTok” announced a possible closing on Twitter.

TikTok, formerly known as “musical.ly” is an online video sharing app that has gained popularity among young teens globally. The app allows users to lipsync various music and skits. Users are able to express creativity through their posts, while remaining up to date by following trends.

One recent trend may be the cause of TikTok’s downfall: the “VSCO girl” trend. This trend makes fun of “basic” girls for their style, vocabulary, and interests. “VSCO” girls allegedly wear “Nike Air Force Ones, lots of scrunchies, and shell necklaces,” according to TikTok user (@ashishere.jpg). This user also claimed that catchphrases including “and I oop” and “sksksk” are used among these teen girls.

How has this affected TikTok’s stability? These “VSCO” girls make up nearly 40 of TikTok’s database. Around half of these girls have retaliated against the TikTok trend.

“I don’t think it’s fair how they make fun of us for our interests,” an anonymous user expressed to react2424.com editors. “I like the trends that I do and I don’t get why millions of people shame us for that.”

The backlash has prompted research, which only has further proven the negative effects TikTok has on young teens.

“There is so much bullying going on on that app,” one mother explained. “I downloaded it to see what it was all about and honestly, it’s crazy. These children and teens are getting bullied by others for just expressing themselves.”

Hate comments are more often left on posts than positive feedback. Many users have been bullied for personal beliefs and appearances. React2424.com editors asked CEO Jeff Nguyen for his opinion:

“It is very unfortunate that an app created to make others laugh is doing quite the opposite. At TikTok HQ, we are always looking to improve the app and reduce bullying. The ability to report comments has already made a significant difference, but we are still looking for ways to reduce it to a minimum.

This news has our editors saying “and I oop!” React2424.com will keep readers updated.
