Harrison, New York soft drink giant, PepsiCo announced late Thursday evening that it intends to build an exclusively Mountain Dew bottling facility in the Golden Corner Commerce Park on SC Highway 59, near Fair Play. County Officials are mum on the project, but SONIC News reporter Jay Walker caught up with founder Caleb Bradham who was vacationing with family on Lake Hartwell, and he had this to say: “We are excited about this new Pepsi venture, and the economic prospects it brings to the gentle folk of Fair Play and the surrounding communities.” Bradham continued. “The demand for Mountain Dew and Diet Mountain Dew has increased upwards of 90 percent in recent weeks due to the fake news about us pulling the Mountain DEW line of products because of alleged health concerns. It only makes sense to seize the opportunity to sell more Mountain Dew while demand is high, and projections for that demand to increase as customers shift from cola based products to a more citrusy flavored product.” “Should demand wane, we can always bottle something else like Gatorade or Muscle Milk, which are also great performers in the PepsiCo lineup.” Construction is slated to begin mid October on the $65 million project. Surveys and permits are in the early stages. The facility is expected to employ upwards of 200 people in the early stages, with possible expansions as deemed necessary.
