Highway 38 is a road in Harlan County, Ky that connects the city of Harlan to the city of Evarts and then leads into Virginia. This Highway is being removed to help the local environment.
In recent years, the Highway has been used less and less with the fall of coal.
For the residents of the Highway 38 corridor, they’ll be forced to use ATVs as a means of transportation. This will not be a new concept for many, however. There are already several residents that use ATVs as their main source of travel.
Once the highway is removed, the rail system will be removed as well. The old rail system will be the trail used to reach Harlan.
