Gov. DeSantis today issued a state mandate to protect student learning despite Coronavirus disruptions.

After hearing the requests of educators across the state, Gov Ron DeSantis issued an executive order today extending the 2019-2020 academic school year until August 3rd. DeSantis is quoted as saying, "The education of our students is our top priority. After hearing concerns from teachers in every school district, I have decided to extend the 2019-2020 school year."

This comes after many teachers contacted the Governor's office to express their dissatisfaction with students' efforts at completing mandatory assignments via the new distance learning model. One teacher in the Hillsborough Public School District stated that students are simply not motivated to complete lessons and participate the same as when they are in the classroom. While no one likes the idea of losing their summer break, teachers included, everyone agrees this is the right move for the sake of our students.
