No Visa - Germany closes it embassies in Laos and Thailand

This news comes unexpectedly: as the government spokesman for the German federal government announced today, Germany will close its German embassies in Bangkok and Vientiane on April 1, 2024.
The German government cites disputes with the Thai and Laotian governments as reasons for closing the embassies.
This also affects visa matters for Thai and Laotian citizens.
Thai and Laotian nationals will no longer be able to apply for visas for the Schengen area as of April 1.
During the closure of the two embassies in Thailand and Laos, the German Embassy in Jakarta will take over representation.
Thai and Laotian citizens who wish to apply for a visa for germany must first appear in person at the German Embassy in Jakarta.
From now on, no more visit appointments will be made regarding a visa application.
Poiticians from the EU, Thailand and Laos hope that these situations will ease by the turn of the year and that the embassies will resume their duties.
