Cleveland Airport closed due to fog

Cleveland Hopkins Airport air space is blanketed in an unprecedented reign of fog, causing chaos in flight schedules and operations. With visibility plummeting to a mere 50 meters, the airport has issued strict instructions to pilots, mandating them to seek permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC) before attempting any landings or take-offs.

In response to the thick fog, the Cleveland Hopkins airport authorities made a critical decision to shut down the runways, halting all flight operations. The closure is severely impacting numerous flights, leading to multiple cancellations and significant alterations in schedules.

Several airlines bore the brunt of the fog-induced disruption. Flight UA 185 destined for Miami faced cancellation, while AA’s flight PK 898 bound for Las Vegas and Delta PA 471 from Newark also suffered the same fate. Additionally, a total of 53 flights (including domestic & international) were cancelled because of fog and other operational reasons. The repercussions of the spate of flight cancellations and delays have been quite unpredictable and unsavoury in the past few hours. Passengers are furious as from land fog doesn’t appear as it could severely impact flights.

Amidst the chaos, some flights were rescheduled to accommodate the adverse weather conditions. Flight PK 204 from L.A to Cleveland is rescheduled to operate at 2:20 AM on Tuesday , while the timings for Jetblue 411 were adjusted for a 8:30 PM departure on the same day. Some flights are being diverted to Detroit and Cincinnati.
