Monmouth Coach King Rice, reached a settlement with the Union Company earlier today in an international trademark infringement case. The Union Company, owners of America’s 242nd most popular rice brand (King Rice), brought the case against the Monmouth coach claiming his use of the King Rice name was causing Brand confusion, including causing people to associate their internationally recognized brand with a third rate College in New Jersey. While terms of the settlement were not disclosed, apparently to end the confusion the Monmouth Head Coach has agreed to legally change his name to “Uncle Ben” since that brand name is no longer in use. Additionally his wife Jasmine, also agreed to change her name to help end product confusion, and despite rumors to the contrary she is not considering going with “Aunt Jemima” even though that name is also reportedly available…..
